Four actors are in “WE ARE WHAT WE ARE” remake

A new remake we’re actually excited about is WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, the reimagining of Jorge Michel Grau’s Mexican cannibalism drama by STAKE LAND’s Jim Mickle, and some solid performers have just been cast, with a few details about the storyline also coming to light.
Screen Daily reports that Riley Keough (pictured, from last month’s Tribeca Film Festival genre-blender JACK AND DIANE and the upcoming Orlando Bloom thriller THE GOOD DOCTOR), Julia Garner (who co-stars in THE LAST EXORCISM 2), AMERICAN PSYCHO’s Bill Sage and Wyatt Russell have landed parts in the movie, which transposes the action to the Catskills region of upstate New York. Keough and Garner play sisters in a secluded family that practices flesheating; when their mother, who had been their provider, dies, their father (Sage) forces them to take a more active role in their rituals. (In Grau’s film, it was the dad who dropped in the opening scene.) Russell plays a young deputy who’s in love with Keough’s character. WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, produced by Paris-based Memento Films International, begins shooting at the end of May and continues through the beginning of July.
